I hope you having a lovely day. The weather here is starting to feel like spring and everyone is pirking up. So, I figured this would be a great day to release my new medallion! The shipping supplies for him arrived today and I am so happy with everything!

	Abd-Al-Mulligan
This medallion captures a winner in his finest moment. Arabians have always been a thing of beauty for me. Their arched necks, tiny ears, gently curved profiles and attitude are enough to make me swoon! So, I wanted to share this moment with you all too! With a delicate arabian halter to accent the lovely dry face that this boy has he is sure to shine up nice under any finishwork or even blank! His name roughly translates out to "Servant of the do over" as this boy had a previous alter ego that wasn't quite as refined. Mully won out and became my next release and my finest work yet. I hope you enjoy him!

	Info
He is cast in high quality artist resin and may have a limited bronze edition.
Size: 5 1/4 Inch Arabian Medallion

Price: $40ppd each. There is a discount for multiples so just let me know how many you want.

Shipping: I will ship to artists and preppers so just let me know where in your order.

Ordering: EMAIL me at rayvin.brewer@gmail.com to order

Edition: 40, possibly more depending on demand

So with this boy I plan on trying an open edition. That means you can order whenever you like basically until 40 are sold. If there is enough demand I will cast more of them but I wanted to try something different rather than waiting for batches. I have the first 20 cast so there isn't much of a wait for the rest even if you miss the inital cast ones. The first ones will ship as soon as tomorrow pending payment.

This release is exclusive to members of my Yahoo Group, Facebook Studio Page and Blog! You guys get dibs!

	Have at er!

	Rayvin Brewer

	Khrysalis Studios

New Arabian Medallion to be Released Soon

I have an upcoming medallion release! This guy is bigger than my past medallions by almost double! He is 5 1/4 inches long. He is an Arabian stallion with all the glitz and glamor of a halter winner with roses to prove it! He has a dainty show halter on to accent his dry arabian features. This boy is my best piece yet! He has the typey arab look and all the details I hoped to achieve.

 Intoroducing Abd-Al-Mulligan (Mully)

"Servant of the do over"! HA!

I hope you all enjoy him as much as I have enjoyed bringing him to life!

Ordering info is to come but this guy will also be prepaid to Canada and the US. I am very excited to see these guys come out painted up and shining!

 More info to come!

This boy is actually a do-over from another medallion, hence the name! The first one doesn't look anything like him but he is still cute!

Here is a progress shot of Dom

He is probably going to be changed and live his life as a Welsh pony soon. He is still very cute and I like the way his face turned out. The bald look does nothing for him!

Another medallion coming up soon is my Sleepy Eventer. He has been a serious tack challenge!

Here is a HA Napoleon that is destined to be a nasty Nazgul!

Also some finishwork in progress! TINY fleabites on an Echo medallion! This is coming soon on Model Horse Blab and RESS (Realistic Equine Sculpture Society) http://www.ress.org. The basic tutorial will be on Blab and the expanded version will be on RESS.

Breyer Cigar ~ Added Kathleen Moody wings and he has become a diving angry pegasus! This boy is an extreme commission and the owners vision is rather epic. His mouth has been opened into a fierce snarl and he is about to go in to battle with something equally furious. He is not about to give an inch in the fight. He is quite a large piece and will definitely make his presence known in the show ring. Lets hope NAMHSA institutes fantasy classes!!

Breyer Esprit ~ being transformed into a bullfighting Lusitano! He is cantering sideways out of the range of a bull. His mane will be done up in the traditional style and tail will be free flowing and expressive. His entire face is going to be resculpted to better portray the Lusitano breed and all his limbs have been moved. His hips will be an extreme customization as they are splayed apart and showing the extreme athleticity of these horses. He is going to be quite the challenge! So stay tuned as he progresses!

Also, I have a few pieces that will be attending Breyerfest and NAN! Best of luck to you all and please do update me when you get back!

	Toodles!

	Rayvin Brewer

	Khrysalis Studios

FINALLY!

SOME PICS!

WIP Mini Crusher!! I need to apologize for the radio silence on this end. As always life has really taken it's toll on my time and I really shouldn't have neglected by beloved blog. I have not, however, neglected my art. Thankfully I have been able to spend a lot of time in my studio. This is probably the only reason I still have a shred of sanity right now. Anyway....we know what studio time means! Progress!! Well, at least some progress. I have a few finished pieces to show off and a lot of new things on the go. I have a lovely lady that I have been working with lately. Terri, this shout out is to you my wonderful prepper! Although, I have driven her a little batty with the small guys and she no longer wants to prep them for me...haha She has been hard at work on some of my bigger guys and you will soon see the fruits of that here!

The fruits of my hard work in the studio will come soon in the form of pics.

Recently Finished Pieces

Reflective Medallion in Dark Bay (I adore this sculpture, I have more to paint too. haha)

Jamil in Dark Dapple Grey (Using some new techniques he now has a lovely soft coat)

Gaiety in Baby Bay ------- SALES PIECE!

Okie Rio in Bay Appy - RESS Finishwork Exhibition Piece (stay tuned for results)

Jitterbug in Palomino

2 Echo Medallions - Grulla and Dun

TIBBP Medallion from last post

In Progress

The Great RD - A Palouse that is getting a new life as a MULE

Okie with some CMing - Destined to be Baby Buckskin

Wee Wyakin - TIBBP Donation as a portrait of a mare named Angela

CMed Epitome

Mini CRUSHER!

Finnigan - Dark Bay - Probably Sales Piece

Other then this lovely list I have a few other projects in the works. I always have my hands in the Apoxie and I have two main victims at the moment. A CM Rembrandt resin and a Classic Silky Sullivan CM to Fjord mare. I have hundreds of bodies and lots of resins and medallions to play with so there is never a shortage of ponies yelling at me to paint them.

Eye candy time!

Ok...the image loader in the blogger isn't playing nice, so I will have to do this the hard way....and it's not letting me add links...hmm..... well....looks like no pics just now...sorry all. For all of those with access http://www.modelhorseblab.com/ is also a place where I post pictures and feel free to email me and bug me for pics too. I will try to get some posted here as soon as I can.

ALSO

Keep an eye on MH$P (http://www.modelhorsesalespages.com/) for two medallion commission openings!

Toodles!

"Time is free, but it's priceless. I am sorry to all of those patiently waiting for an update on studio stuff. I have been letting everyone with commissions know what's up as there have been a few shows in the last month that I have attended. I still want you all to see what's going on too though! Thank you for bearing with me. I had my apendix removed two months ago and on top of that I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia, quite the interesting mix I will tell ya! So I have gotten that mostly under control and I have a nice hole where my apendix should be! Haha. Anyway, studio stuff has been going well. I have a few projects that have been under wraps until now.... I am working on an Okie Rio (customized slightly by myself to have a scruffy appy mane and tail and a twitched ear) and a Jitterbug resin for the RESS Finishwork Exhibition. The deadline is fast approaching in September and I have the Jitterbug almost complete except for hooves and hair. Okie just got his basecoat in oils yesterday. He will be a no spot blanket appy based after a foal my great grandfather bred.

I am very excited for this project as with the RESS FE I will get a professional critique of my work. For this reason I have done one horse in pastels and the other in oils so that I may have a more diverse critique. I am looking forward to hear how I can inprove the quality and realism in my work as you don't always know if your getting the full critique from others. It's not about the winning but the knowledge that you gain in the process. Here is Okie.

...and Jitter. He is a nice dark carmel palomino and I LOVE how he is turning out.

This is an in-progress medallion (TIBBP Plaque by Kelly Savage) with the chosen subjects being belgians. It is a color I have had trouble with in the past as it is hard to do light colors in pastels I find. This is turning out rather well I think. It is the first commission from a lady who has been waiting to own some of my work for a few years now and this was the perfect opportunity to sneak in there and get this pretty thing painted. Medallions I find to have a lot more flow to them when I am painting as they are so artsy! I think some part of me misses that. I enjoy the composition and rarely turn down a medallion commission. :)

Now!! I have the little Gypsy in hand and she is TOO ADORABLE FOR WORDS! I will be painting my little girl in bay overo most likely and the other is still available for sale at a steal of a price! If you are interested please contact me at rayvin.brewer@gmail.com She is TINY and full of spunk!! I will post pictures of my girl as soon as I have some color on her. I am chomping at the bit to get started on her!

Toodles for now everyone. I should have more to post very soon as I have been on fire in the studio. I didn't realise how many bodies and resins I actually had until I had to pack them all up. Yikes! Anyway, I am moving to a better space. There will be a larger studio area and I back right onto a Provincial park so inspiration will be my next door neighbor! I am very excited to see how this will inspire my work.

I do have great things in store for the future of Khrysalis Studios though. Many many ideas floating around in my head and plans I have set in motion to really get my work out there. Just wait and see! I am striving to really make an impression and I hope you all like what you are going to see. I have a ton of reference photos stocked up for every occasion and my trip to Spruce Meadows today yelded another 250+.....I might be a bit of a shutter bug. hehe. As always, not all of the photos turned out but I have a few great shots and a lot of gesture and pose references. Even though I missed out on pony pics and the foals. Oh well, it's an excuse to go back there again. hehe.

Right now I have finished my little Jellibaby with the Netsky following right behind her. I have a Jax and a Reflective plaque in shipping that will grace my studio wallks for inspiration. I cannot WAIT to see the Jax one, it is going to be HUGE!!!! I am wanting to paint it either pinto of some sorts or maybe just a pain contrasty bay. I have painted a few of them for other people but I have none to keep for myself! This might be my chance.

I am also planning on delving into more CMing and sculpting. I am really enjoying playing in the Apoxie and I don't think it's going to stop anytime soon. It is just another journey to travel and more things to explore! Woohoo!

Well, here's hoping that my move goes well. I will post as soon as I can for everyone. Anyone needing my address can email me at rayvin.brewer (at) gmail.com.

Rayvin

A parting picture for you all......Ian Miller.....goin BOING!! lol.

Finally Eye Candy!

Well here you all go! To be honest I have been in a bit of a slump after my hyper productive patch there. That's ok, I feel better now I have rested my hands and my brain and I am ready to get crackin' again! I have a little Jellibaby by Adalee V at the post office waiting to be picked up tomorrow and I think I have a base color picked out. I just need to settle on what markings I want for the little cutie!! I am excited to see her in person!

I am extremely pleased with how my Stormwatch is turning out. Now he isn't the flashiest thing out there, no pinto, appy or even fancy colors for my boy. I am conidering naming him "Wu Wei", for those of you who don't know what that is take a wiki break and read up, it's an interested Teoist idea that suites my Stormy to a tee! I have learned a lot from this boy, especially about the inside of a horses lips! lol!!

Anyway, this blog was intended to be geared towards my studio name. It's just a little rant and a minor insite into this cluttered brain of mine. Now, I did take a long time to decide what name I wanted to use for my studio. With everything I do I had to have the PERFECT name. Well, what better name to represent my studio then a take on a Crysalis, a great tool of metamorphisis from which beautiful butterflies emerge. Deep, I know. It is beginning to expand out from that simple thought of the horses that come to my studio as blank canvases and that I get to set free as beautiful pieces of art.... it's taken on a life of it's own.

I am at a point in my life where a lot is changing and since my very studio is an emblem of change I figure it's a sign to go with the flow. A lot of great thoughts and people have entered my life and I could not be more greatful. One of those people being my current partner in life, Kevin. I couldn't ask for a more supportive, creatively inspiring and amazing friend to join my on this journey. Plus my work has done so well for it's self! I recently sold my little Khassanova and he just kicked traditional resin butt at a show to come out first in arabs, first in color (black/grey/white) and then take a top 10 overall at the show. When he placed second at North West Congress I pretty much balled the entire time (as Chris Jolly or anyone else who was there! LOL). I was so proud and he just keeps going!

Anyway...small rant. Now I am off to scar up my Stormy and take some pics for all of you patient Blog watchers.

Rayvin

(now to try a inspring quote because they always make my day)
"When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be” ~ Lau Tzu

I am beginning to think that this Mini Scarlett is the bane of my existance. I have attempted to paint it a light belgian flexen chestnut 4 times now and everytime something goes horribly horribly wrong and wreaks it to the point where I have to reprep it and start from scratch. Well, this time was worse then any other time and left me with a rediculous amount of prepping and a very bad mood. Normally when this happens it's a sign that it does not want to be that color... so I might have to contact her mommy and see what she wants to do because I don't know if 5th time is a charm..... UGH!!

On a happier note, I have the dark grey G3 andy all done and ready to either sell or show and a G1 arab mare just needing details. My NAN trophy entry is getting close to completion which is VERY exciting!!! I have a few more ideas I might be able to get together in apoxie before the contest deadline too. Wish me luck!

I will try to post pictures soon for everyone. I know text based posts can be really boring with no eye candy. ;)

April Snow Brings.... APRIL PROGRESS

Well, since spring has not quite sprung yet I have been taking advantage of my time inside. I was sent a few items to paint for donations to Lethbridge Live, which is an Alberta show coming in July. Two of the items were these spectacular arabian medallions by Mel Miller that I had never seen before. They were a blast to paint up and I got to try out some new fleabit tehniques. I really surprised myself by getting these two done in just two days! Well, here they are.

Up next is the completed Lover Boy donation to TIBBP. I am just full of donations lately. Haha. This boy is just as hard to give up as his sister Love Potion #9....the Haggina I painted for TIBBP. I really need to paint something in this yummy shade of bay for myself. I am really proud of myself for how he came out. As you can see, his color is similar to the medallion above as well, I think I found my new muse. He already has a happy home. :) Please enjoy his glowing bay handsomeness! I have decided I have to do an appaloosa in this color...and a tobiano...and an overo. HAHA!

Hopefully I don't jinx myself by showing her off...but this is a Mini Scarlett resin for Maddie H. I have painted her 4 times so far....and this time really took some effort to make her look so good. Everything from random spots on her finishwork to black hairs to just funky undertones haunted this gal. She should be called Fairlight Jinx instead of Sandra D. Yikes. But anyway, I really like how she is working out and I adore her facial marking. I tinkered with some Earth pigment samples on her legs and face and decided I have to invest in the Titanium white. It is amazing.

I love spots. 'nuff said. I have a horrible addiciton to appaloosas and most of the represenations of leopard appies out there make me very sad inside. I am very picky about my appies as my great grandfather raised them and I love their color! This body is the Hagen Renaker Quarter Horse, new to their line for this year. This guy had some goobers in his glaze so he makes a great appy now! far from done but the pattern is mostly blocked out on this side. The little guy is the Hagen Renaker Mustang Foal that needs some touchups done, but will most likely be for sale.

Lastly, a little Gaiety foal that I am using as a tester for my Earth Pigment testers. Will be baby bay.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://khrysalis-studios.blogspot.com/2009/04/april-snow-brings-april-progress.html' title='April Snow Brings.... Some of you may be VERY interested in these. I have to confess that I adore one of the medallions that I am working on for the show. So much so that I worked well into the morning and deprived myself of sleep for my 7am shift to work on it! I was very inspired by it and it has turned into quite the glowing bay. I have decided that I rather like dark bays. Bringing out the nice glowing red tones topped with deep velvety blacks.... mmmMMmmm!! I LOVE IT!

Other then the donations I have a few completed and in progress works to show off soon. Newly completed are a the buckskin overo medallion which will be up for sale soon, a bay leopard appaloosa Netsky resin called Khrystal (sold) and Lover Boy (the Mini Haggis CM for TIBBP also sold).

In Progress:

Hagen Renaker Pony family - I am having a few issues trying to get these ones to work out. They are darned cute molds though!

G3 WB CM to extended canter with forward ears and new mouth, mane and tail and BETTER HOOVES! Ugh, the G3 mold hooves drive me up the wall.

Stormy still <3>

Parrs Dream Doll resin to semi-leopard appy

Musetta - flexen chestnut

Mini Scarlett - Blonde Belgian

Eberl Jamil - being prepped to become a gorgeous dapple or rose grey... possibly.

Various others. I recently got my grubby paws on some G1 stablemates that will soon see the dremel. Although I can promise you that I have been diligently working away in the studio to produce some promising things and sending some rather happy painted ponies home to their patient owners. I have been playing with the Apoxie Sculpt a lot too, which is really making that artistic brain WHIR!! Anyway..here are some long overdue pictures.

First up at the top is my very own personal Stormwatch resin by the incomperable Sarah Minkiewicz! He is amazing to paint and is very much a work in progress in the picture. I am going to be taking my time with him and really playing with some new techniques and effects. Since he is mine, I don't have to worry about any deadlines. He is going to be a sooty buckskin color and he will be all scarred up from living his rather rough life. I really have a soft spot for Sarah's sculptures. He is all pastel BABY! Well.. his details will be in acrylic.

Now this is a buckskin overo John Henry medallion by Mel Miller. I have been itching to paint an overo for a while now so this guy was the perfect victim! I really like how he is turning out but I am having some issues with the background. If anyone one has any suggestions feel free to post! Pastel and Acrylic

Ok, so I have been itching to paint a dark grey too. This is all thanks to a local Canuck, Tammy's gorgeous dark grey Valor resin. I fell in love and the color wouldn't get out of my head. I am really liking how this is turning out too, just wait for those dapples! Mmmm! He may be for sale when finished. All pastel pigment.

This is a Lynn Fraley Netsky resin. She is an adorable little pony. I have painted her up in pastels and acrylic to a nice bay leopard appaloosa. She was quite the treat to paint and will be going home to her new Mommy rather soon.

This gentle soul is a special treat for Deb Buckler of Resins by Randy. He is a nice pangare bay on Janet Edington's Rembrandt resin. He is mostly pastels with a little acrylic used for details. What a handsome sucker he is!!

Now this little guy may be small, but he is VERY special. He was sold to benefit The International Blessed Broodmare Project or TIBBP http://www.theinternationalblessedbroodmareproject.com/ . His name is Lover Boy and he is a glowing bay sabino clydesdale that will soon be going to a few shows to earn some points to his name and then back to his new mom! I have really enjoyed being able to use my talent to the benefit of real horses in need. This is my second donation to the cause and I couldn't be more humbled by it. The first donation was a Mini Haggis resin by Kitty Cantrell customized to a Mare with flowing mane and tail in a similar color to this guy but also VERY unique. This handsome lad is customized by Deb Buckler.

Again, Sarah's work at work. This fiesty little ball of fire put up quite a fight about his color. First he wanted to be grulla, then dun and finally bay roan with scarring. Looks like he has had his fair share of battles but has some out full of attitude! This spunky boy recently went to his home in Calgary, Alberta with Twyla! Congrats! He is also a mostly pastel pony with acrylic detailing.

Slightly customized from the Lonesome Glory Breyer Mold, this is a portrait model for Michelle. He has a new mane, tweaked face, fleshed out body and of course a new coat! This yummy chestnut is done in oils with acrylic details. Handsome no?

So I have been hard at work and there is much more to post!! I will spread it out over the next little while so that I don't completely overwhelm everyone. hehe. I have some more ponies that have gone home recently and some customs in progress.... stay tuned!

WooWee!

Long time no post! Life has been a flury of days passing by without warning so sadly my Blog has been neglected. I am planning a nice picture post for mid-month, maybe sooner so keep checking back.

New things things for the Blog are:

CMed portrait commission Lonesome Glory in bright chestnut

CMed Al-Hadiye resin by Deborah McDermott. I gave this guy a new tail (the old one just didn't flow with my artistic vision) and he wants to be black (so far, lol)

Pictures of my CMed Mini Nahar (still being prepped, darn this boy has lots of work needed on him)

Snippets of other projects I am working on at the moment. ;) Lots of fun stuff going on here including a SALES PIECE! HA!

Eye candy to come!

Toodles!

Rayvin Brewer ~ Khrysalis Studios

September Progress

Now this is the part of the Blog that starts to get interesting. I don't know about you but I LOVE to see inprogress work from other artists. It's very inspiring to me to watch a piece evolve from nothing into a masterpiece. Anyway, I should probably get to the point and stop boring you. Over the past few months I have had some progress in studio, despite work and ripping appart our basement bathroom I still got stuff done! Yay!

Here are some pictures of what I am working on right now, they very from painting to sculpting and customizing. There should be something for everyone to enjoy.

First on the chopping block is a CM G3 Belgian Mare. I added a mane to her and resculpted her tail. Not quite sure of the color, I am leaning towards a nice black bay.

Next up is a CM PS ISH with a Pheonix Resin head. I added a bit to the nasal bone and the bottom of the jaw to make the head more 'stock horse' like. This horse needs a LOT more work before it is even close to presentable but I figured that it would be worth posting now. I am planning on making this pretty pony into an appaloosa old style with a sparse tail and scruffy mane. For the color I am thinking bay blanket appy or maybe leopard.

Third up is my NEIBITS donation. Lesli Kathman's clinky medallion (about quarter sized) cold painted and to a bay varnish appy, it's also glossed.

This guy is a Picasso resin with a CMed mane. He is for Deb Buckler of Resins by Randy and will be a nice soft black roan when he is done. My first attempt at a oil roan, enhanced by pastels.

Well, that is all for now. I should have some more for you later on. ;) I always have lots on the go. :D Until then, have a great day!

Rayvin

Khrysalis Studios

A day at Spruce Meadows

The Masters has come again this year and I managed to get away from work and the studio for two days to take it all in. I am lucky enough to live right close to Spruce Meadows and make it an rule to visit at least once a year. I must say that I am never dissapointed and no matter how many times I go there is always something new to see. It is a great place for collecting references and information. By the end of today I had taken over 525 pictures and at least 6 videos, on Wednesday I took over 175 pictures and another 3 videos so I am stocked up for a while. Now I just need to go through them all. :D

For the last two years the Spruce Meadows has arranged for Anky Van Grunsven to preform at the Masters and all I can say is wow. Being able to have the opportunity to see this spectacular woman in person is truly breathtaking. There really are no words to discribe how touching her performances are, even better is how nice she is in person. I managed to snap a few pictures durring her performances that I want to share with you all.

This little Mini Wagon was adorably cute! Wouldn't it be great to have a performance set up like this? I wish there were more miniature resins in the hobby, they are so cute and colorful. Anyway, they had this wagon, a few other single carts and some jumps set up for the little guys to try. Being so little it was amazing how high they can jump.

Here is an appaloosa gelding that was representing his breed at Spruce Meadows Today. What a spectaular color this guy is! Must be an advanced snowflake pattern...or something. I might just have to use this guy for a ref. at some point. He was a sweetie too. :D

As for studio stuff, I have made some progress on my commissions and on some sales pieces, hopefully some photos to come. :) I also have a WB sculpture in progress, he is LB scale and is really starting to look horse shaped. I am very excited about this guy!
